Contra Costa Jury Acquits Officer Matthew Nutt
We were happy to learn that a Contra Costa jury acquitted former Officer Matthew Nutt last week. The Antioch Police Officers Association (APOA) firmly believes in the principle of due process and the importance of a fair and impartial judicial system.
Throughout the trial, Officer Nutt was afforded the opportunity to defend himself against the allegation that he used excessive force in arresting a man wanted for a drive by shooting. We appreciate the diligent work of the jury in carefully considering the facts and reaching their decision. Their commitment to upholding justice is commendable.
We would also like to express our appreciation to Mrs. Nicole Pifari of RLS for her dedicated defense of Officer Nutt during the trial. Nicole demonstrated her commitment to upholding the principles of justice by diligently presenting the case and advocating for Officer Nutt.
We understand that this has been a challenging time for the Nutt family, and we are genuinely happy for them as they can now move forward from this ordeal.
As an organization, the APOA remains committed to promoting accountability, transparency, and professionalism within our ranks. We will continue to support our officers in upholding the highest standards of law enforcement while also ensuring the safety and well-being of our community. This acquittal gives our officers the confidence they need to continue doing their jobs, knowing that so long as they follow the law and our policy, our community will support them.
